Kernan Physical Therapy at Woodlawn
Kernan Physical Therapy at Woodlawn is a Medicare-certified, state-of-the-art,
freestanding outpatient sports medicine and rehabilitation center, wholly owned
by Kernan Hospital, University of Maryland Medical System. The Center is conveniently
located in Woodlawn (Baltimore County) and opened in 1993. This location allows
for the development and expansion of Kernan Sports Medicine and the addition
of high tech fitness and spine programs, as clinical adjuncts to traditional
physical therapy.
Bill Neill, PT, and John Mahoney, PT, founded the Center’s programs and
have been affiliated with Kernan for a combined total of over 70 years.
Bill and John established their clinical and professional careers based on a
reputation for excellence in orthopaedics and sports medicine. They pioneered
the development of evaluation and treatment models, protocols and practices
that have set the stage and served as a model for sports medicine and orthopaedic
programs across the country. Over the years, Kernan’s sports medicine programs
have served the rehabilitation and fitness needs of many nationally and internationally
renowned sports legends, as well as sports teams which have included the Baltimore
Ravens, the Orioles, the Colts, the Skipjacks, the Bullets and the Blast.
Currently, Kernan Physical Therapy at Woodlawn provides fitness, wellness,
aquatic, and physical therapy services to thousands of professional, scholastic,
recreational and amateur athletes each year. Highly trained physical therapy
and fitness staff utilize the most advanced equipment.
Kernan Physical Therapy at Woodlawn presently has affiliations to provide
Certified Athletic Trainers to approximately 11 high schools in the Baltimore
Area. This service allows for an unmatched quality of care and affords a cycle
of care which spans from the playing field (site of injury) to the Kernan physician’s
office (acute intervention) to the physical therapy clinic (aggressive rehabilitation)
and back to the training room and playing field (functional recovery).
